Is it mandatory to have a POS system in a restaurant?

In France, all POS System have to be certified NF 525 or LNE in order to be sold since 2018.

In Belgium, it is mandatory to have a white cash register if your restaurant’s annual turnover exceeds €25,000. Be aware that the law is going to change in Belgium in 2026, so that it can be applied to more establishments.

In Sweden, it is mandatory to have a POS system if you’re selling something in return for cash payment or payment with a debit/credit card.

In Denmark, restaurants with annual turnover of less than DKK 10 million are required to use an electronic sales registration system, meaning a POS system. And it has to comply with a few requirements, as stated in the Danish VAT Order.

In Norway, all establishments that make cash sales must record and document them using a certified POS system. Another law states that establishments selling food and drinks must register their sales on an ongoing basis in a POS system.
